Pictures. Founder and former CEO of Relativity Media, Ryan is known for his
‘Moneyball’ model of film finance. A former consultant to some small businesses
and venture capitalists, he founded Relativity Media in the year 2014. After
this, he created a Monte Carlo model, now known as ‘the model,’ designed to
predict the profitability of films.
Every film from Relativity Media needs to pass the profitability
prediction test from the model. During its first year of operation, Ryan
executed a finance deal for Marvel Studios, leading to the creation of Marvel
Cinematic Universe. He has also structured the deals for several companies,
some of which are Universal, Sony, and Warner Brothers.
He created marketing, production, and promotional partnership with
Virgin Produced and Virgin Mobile, where Relativity owns a stake. He has also
launched a partnership for Relativity with Huaxia Film Distribution Co. Ltd.
Ryan holds the credit of producing several superlative films, including
Limitless, Beyond the Lights, Safe Haven, Mirror Mirror, Immortals, and The
Fighter. He is also an executive producer of the film, The Social Network, which
received eight Oscar nominations. He has
produced several films including, Dear John, Grown Ups, 3:10 to Yuma, and Mamma
Mia.
His noteworthy films honored him with many awards, including the
2009 Hollywood Producer of the Year presented at the 13th Annual Hollywood
Awards and the Leadership Award produced by the Hollywood Reporter. Media houses including the Dailey Variety and
Daily Reporter published special issues about him, one of which was 'Billion
Dollar Producer’. In the year 2010, he
had his name on Fortune’s 40 Under 40 Most Influential People and also in
Forbes’ Future 400: Ones To Watch. In the year 2011, he was named 'Showman of
the Year' by Variety.
Involved in several charitable causes, Ryan Kavanaugh was honored with Hollywood Humanitarian Award,
Community Champion Award, and the 2011 Entertainment Industry Award. He also serves
several charitable institutions such as the Board of Governors for Cedars-
Sinai and as a Chairman for The Art of Elysium.
